From all of us at Digivolve Accountants in Haywards Heath, thank you to every client who has trusted us over the year. Christmas is our busiest period of the year because it sits just before the 31 January Self Assessment deadline, so here is how we work over the festive break and what you can do to keep your tax return on track.

Our Christmas arrangements

The office closes for a short break over Christmas and reopens after Boxing Day for the run up to the January deadline. Exact dates are confirmed on our contact page and in our email signature each December. You can still upload documents to your client portal and send records at any time.

Use the break to get your tax return sorted

The 2025/26 tax return deadline is 31 January 2027. The quieter days between Christmas and New Year are an ideal time to pull your records together:

  • P60 and P11D from your employer
  • Bank interest and dividend statements
  • Rental income and expenses
  • Self-employed income and costs
  • Pension contributions and Gift Aid donations

Our 2025/26 tax return checklist takes you through everything, and our January deadline guide covers penalties and payments.

Paying your January tax bill

Remember that 31 January is also the payment date for your 2025/26 balance and your first payment on account for 2026/27. If Christmas has stretched the budget, file on time anyway and set up a Time to Pay plan. Read payments on account explained.

Staff gifts and the Christmas party

Business owners can give staff small festive gifts tax-free under the trivial benefits rules, and the annual party is tax-free within the £150 per head exemption.

Looking ahead to the new year

If you are a sole trader or landlord with income over £30,000, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies to you from April 2027. Use the new year to get your records digital. Our MTD readiness checker will tell you where you stand.

Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year from the whole team.
